Chants

Pure Land Chants Twenty-five hundred years ago, Shakyamuni Buddha spoke of a Buddha named Amitabha, who, like every enlightened one, was once an ordinary being. Shakyamuni, Amitabha, and all Buddhas wish that one day all beings will awaken from their long dream, and leave suffering and unhappiness behind.

All of us have the same intrinsic potential as Buddhas to awaken.

We chant to touch the Buddha within us: To become one with all Buddhas.

Amituofo For over a thousand years in China, this melodious and soothing sound has resonated throughout monasteries and temples. It lies at the heart of the practice of the Pure Land school of Mahayana Buddhism. As one chants and becomes absorbed in the sound of the name, worries and distractions will gradually fade and be replaced by feelings of natural serenity and joy.

Namo Amituofo This gentle "Homage to Amitabha Buddha" can be a peaceful accompaniment to activities such as walking, driving, or simply being. In the midst of life's everyday concerns, it can provide a refreshing interlude.
